Big changes could be coming to South Louisiana, and the people who live, work, and own property in Pecan Island deserve a chance to understand what those changes could mean for their community.
On Friday, October 9, 2026, at 3:00 PM, community members are invited to the Pecan Island Methodist Church for an open community forum focused on SpaceX and its potential impact on Pecan Island and the surrounding area.
The conversation will focus on the questions that matter locally: What could this mean for property owners? How could it affect the local economy? Could new growth change everyday life in Pecan Island? And what can the community learn from areas that have already experienced SpaceX-related development?
A Community Conversation Before Change Arrives
This forum is designed to give landowners, homeowners, and community members an opportunity to hear directly from guest speakers with relevant knowledge and experience.
Rather than relying on rumors or speculation, the goal is to have an open conversation about what residents may be able to expect and what lessons can be learned from other communities.
Guest Speaker: Mike Kloesel
Mike Kloesel, Mayor of Kaplan, will share what he knows about SpaceX and discuss what its presence could mean for Pecan Island, including potential effects on land, the local economy, growth, and the community’s future.
Guest Speaker: Craig Grove
Joining him will be Craig Grove, Broker/Owner of GRT Realty, also known as “The Brownsville Guy.”
Grove will bring a Texas perspective to the discussion, sharing his firsthand experience with how SpaceX has reshaped daily life, real estate, and growth around Brownsville, Boca Chica, and South Padre Island.
His experience offers Pecan Island residents an opportunity to hear what another community has encountered as SpaceX’s presence expanded nearby—and to ask questions about what lessons may apply closer to home.
